The house is first introduced then Price the showman and his vampish wife as well as their less than cosy relationship. The party at the house with the unexpected guest list is then introduced.

The group enter the massive and imposing house.
5. DEBATE (12-25)
Is the house really haunted or is it one of Price's gimmicks?
6. BREAK INTO TWO (25)
Lockdown - the shutters seal the house up with everybody inside.
7. B STORY (30)
The guns? Price and his wife's relationship?
8. FUN AND GAMES (30-55)
The trip to the cellar, the vat of blood, the house beginning its creepshow.
9. MIDPOINT (55)
The girl with the camera is killed by ghosts. This is no gimmick. There is something real happening.
10. BAD GUYS CLOSE IN (55-75)
The group decide to get out, convinced of the authenticity of the house's scares. Price's assistant is dead. Evelyn is electro shocked to death.
11. ALL IS LOST (75)
It is discovered that the group are all descendants of the staff at the house.
12. DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL (75-85)
Sarah shoots Price.
13. BREAK INTO THREE (85)
The blackness breaks out and kills Evelyn.
14. FINALE (85-110)
The darkness chases them around the house but the ghost of Pritchard saves them.
15. FINAL IMAGE (110)
The house in daylight - peaceful and sunny.
VERDICT
It follows the beat sheet almost perfectly.
There is no central protagonist however which clouds the issue somewhat.
The opening and closing images contrast nicely. Again the, Dark Night of the Soul section becomes a little unclear as so much darkness is happening. This is common to the horror genre and this strand of the horror genre in particular. |
