Horror isn't all just people having their eyes gouged out or their brains smashed in or their fingers chopped off or any of the other literally countless nasty, sadistic and delporable acts that have been committed for our entertainment over the years.
Well, alot of it is actually but not all. Nosiree Bob.
There's often time for a good old bit of a dance in a good horror film and in recognition of this Nefarious Films brings to you 5 of the most memorable dances in horror.
No. 5 - Angela Gets Freaky
Night of the Demons
Alot of strange dancing went on in the '80s and nowhere was this more apparent than in horror movies. Never was it as threateningly sexy as when Amelia Kincaid as Angela danced to Bauhaus in Night of the Demons however.
Having been recently possessed by some demon spirit thing Angela does this routine for her soon to be victim. It isn't made clear why an ancient demon with all the power of hell would want to turn on a horny teenage boy but in doing so she made '80s horror movie gold.
No. 4 - Leatherface Goes Mental
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Some dancing is a tightly choreographed, perfectly controlled artform while sometimes it is a purely instinctive expression of emotion.
Leatherface's (as played by Gunnar Hansen) funky little routine falls firmly into the latter category. Having just seen the girl he has spent the entire film trying to kill, make her escape in a passing truck Leatherface's weird danceof anger and frustration is an absolutely perfect note to end the film on. As he twirls and spins in the queasy light of a new dawn we are left with the overriding impression of utter madness.
Backed by the ridiculously cool and sleazy theme track by Chignon Rose McGowan's Cherry Darling opens a film about melting pus-filled mutants in surprisingly sexy style.
Despite her claims of wanting to be a standup comedian Cherry sure knows how to Go Go dance which is just as well as it is these very skills she improbably uses to dodge missiles and exploding trucks and stuff later on in the movie.
The only question is whether she is sexyier with the machine gun leg or with her normal, you know, flesh and blood one.
No. 2 - Salma's Sexy Snake Dance
From Dusk Til Dawn
Another outrageously sexy dance and another Rodriguez film. That guy sure likes his dancing girls - just see Sin City for proof of that.
Ms Hayek invents new types of sexy here however as Satanico Pandemonium, the vampire queen. Backed by a sultry steamy guitar track and assisted by a great big snake she gives Quentin Tarantino the thrill of his life by making him drink tequila from her foot. The real trick is she makes it seem alluring.
Gotta say though, she kinda loses it a bit when she goes all reptillian and bald.
There's sexy, there's cool and then there's Crispin Glover. Having made a career of playing some pretty odd characters we can see that he always had some..strange tendencies just by checking out this little quickstep from the fourth in the Friday the 13th series.
It's hard to imagine how anyone even conceived of moving in that maner really. It's the pauses in between the frenzied bursts of pure dance madness that really seal the deal here.
That and the little footstep noises on the soundtrack. I love them.
It may be a tad unconventional but it does score him the girl. Though it doesn't do him that much good as he dies a horrible painful death soon after. Ah well, there's a lesson to be learnt here -
