MICK TAYLOR

AKA

John Jarratt

Was a bastard in

Wolf Creek (2005)

Who the hell is he?

Initially coming across as friendly and helpful, if a little odd, Mick doesn’t look too threatening. Sure, he looks like he can handle himself but he’s certainly past his prime and he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer either. Of course none of this matters once the real Mick Taylor comes out to play. He is a sadistic monster who not only loves inflicting vile brutalities upon helpess women but finds it amusing too. There is no
reasoning with this guy, you only have to see him telling

jaws

one of his victims to calm down and stop crying in the same breath as he is threatening her with rape and dismemberment to know that he is utterly without mercy, sympathy or regret.

Mick is not completely out of his mind though, he knows exactly what he is doing and why. He is also very good at it, he is an excellent marksman and certainly knows a trick or two with a bloody big hunting knife.

It is Mick’s believability that makes him so memorable, especially in light of the fact that his character is based on real life incidents. Mick Taylor is the worst kind of monster - one which actually exists.

That's not a knife...

Mick knows his knives, oh yes he certainly knows his knives and his guns. He is equally proficient with both but it’s his total lack of sympathy or empathy combined with his casual brutality that are his most fearsome weapons.

Why for the love of God Why??!!?

It gets lonely in the Australian outback and a red blooded man like Mick appreciates a little “company”. It’s a shame that he has to torture, rape and kill people to appreciate their company. Mick is just your basic bastard, he kills because he likes it, he really likes it.

So what's the damage?

Mick’s killed a lot of folk by the evidence we see when one of the heroines stumbles upon a garage full of vehicles and belongings of previous victims. There are also the decaying mutilated corpses strung up here and there which are a handy reminder of how often Mick likes to do his thing.

It's a million to one chance but it might just work...

Mick’s not got any supernatural powers or anything like that, he’s just a man. He’s a very very bad man, but still just a man and therefore vulnerable to all the normal slings and arrows. That said however he’s a tough old goat and can withstand a fair bit of abuse if the way he can shrug off being shot in the neck is anything to go by.

Words of wisdom:

“I'm going to do something now they used to do in Vietnam. It's called making a head on a stick…”
