So who the Hell is he?

Pinhead is the leader of bunch of beingscalled Cenobites. Put simply, Cenocites are demonic sado-masochists. They dwell in the depths of Hell but are summoned to our world via an odd little device called The Lamentation Configuration Box. This is
a puzzle box which when solved calls the cenobites to the Earthly realm in order to collect the person who solved the box,

bring them back to Hell and inflict on them the utmost extremes of pleasure and pain possible. Suffice to say, this doesn't involve some middle-aged woman dressing up in PVC and flogging them with a bit of old bamboo.

Pinhead, and indeed all of the cenobites, is fairly distinctive by his deathly palour, fetishtic clothing and hideous mutilations. Each cenobite's wounds are individual to that particular being. One of them is known as Chatterer due to his abscence of lips for example. Pinhead has a grid carved into his skull and masses of nails hammered into his head and face - now that's hardcore.

That's not a knife...

Pinhead and his pale friends utilise all manner of blades and devices in their dispensation of ultimate suffering - well I guess you'd have to really. A firm favourite however are the hooks on chains which they can seemingly call up from nowhere to dig through the victim's flesh and eventually pull them to messy pieces.
Some of the lesser cenobites use things like flying CD's as weapons but these are truly best left forgotten.

The Cenobites do what they do basically because that's what they are there for. They are servants of Hell and specifically a being called Leviathan who is the ruler of Hell.

Why for the love of God, why?!!?

Cenobites were all human once, mostly humans who wanted to experience the ultimate pain and pleasure and have now become those which inflict it. They have however lost or forgotten all traces of humanity in their souls.

What's the damage?

The damage is pretty high with these guys. Despite the central idea that the Cenobites only come for those who have opened the box there have been several deviations from this throughout the films that make up this series. In the third episode for example Pinhead brought Hell to Earth and slaughtered an entire nightclub of people before making a hefty dent of the population of the town it was set in.

It's a million to one chance but it might just work...

The best way to get rid of a Cenobite population in your house is to use the same thing that brought them there in the first place - the box. It's a little unclear how this works but as it is essentially the only thing that has power over them is worth a try.
The only other thing that seems to work is to make the cenobite remember who he was when he was human so that the two halves divide and war against each other. Simple really.
