Though we are a little late to the party reporting this one we’re still pretty damn stoked at these new pics (from Shoot for the Head – click here for more) from the latest in George A Romero’s zombie series, Survival of the Dead.

The film is about a group of soldiers searching for a safe haven from the undead apocalypse that has befallen the world. They take refuge on an island which they have heard is a sanctuary from the cannibalistic ghouls but turns out to be not so safe after all. 

Though the recent Diary of the Dead was generally seen as something of a disappointment this looks like it could be a real return to form for the man who basically invented the modern zombie genre.

The film is reported to be making its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
