News has just hit the internet that it looks as though the excellent series of graphic novels, The Walking Dead are to be adapted into a live action television series with none other than Frank Darabont calling the shots

The original series of comic books were written by Robert Kirkman and follow the story of a group of survivors of the traditional zombie armageddon trying to survive. What sets it apart however is its intelligent writing and mature handling of a genre which so often lapses into outright silliness.

Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are set to produce according to Variety and ComingSoon.net but it is Frank Darabont's involvement which really fires up our interest.

Taking a break from his life work of adapting Stephen King novels (well, he seems to be the only one able to make good films out of them now Stanley Kubrick is dead) the man behind 2007's fantastic The Mist is definitely the right choice for the doom-laden tone of the source material.

Will he give us a happy ending this time though?

Let's hope not...
